“The breach on the Commissaris Thurkowweg has been repaired. There is for good, but a temporary solution supported. This will not unnecessarily delay the local population. This was announced by Suriname’s Minister of Public Works, Riad Nurmohamed.
According to him, an innovative and rapid method was chosen in the first phase. The lasting solution to this problem had already been prepared before but could not yet be implemented due to financial constraints.
Today, the preliminary work of phases 2 and 3 begins immediately; this includes the installation of conduits and the construction of a lock. Within two months, work will begin to resolve the problem in a sustainable manner.
Nurmohamed was on site (pictured) on Sunday activities and discuss next steps with local stakeholders.
“A word of thanks goes to the DC and the Commewijne Police Station, to the contractor and to the employees and staff of OW for the good work,” said the Surinamese minister of OT.
