The Cincinnati Reds won their first trip to the postseason since 2013 with an incredibly late season run.

13 days ago, the Cincinnati Reds had a 20-26 record and a 17.1% chance of reaching the postseason.

Tonight, the Reds reached the postseason by beating the Minnesota doubles. The Reds have won 10 games in the last 12 games against the back of the wall.

The Twins were 23-5 at home this season. They had their stud Jose Perios on the Mount tonight. Reds starter Tyler Mahley lasted only 2.1 innings. Nothing matters to this team, they are on a mission.

Mike Moustagas is a guy who went down to a very slow start and struggled with injuries. He scored two home runs that night. Michael Lorensen was wanted by some DFA after a bad start this season, but David Bell continued to trust him. Lawrence gave up a brilliant 3.2 innings to secure the game for the Reds.

Soak this in Reds fans. It was a long road to get to this point, but we are here. The Cincinnati Reds are going to play baseball again next season, and they are hotter than any other team on the planet.

The biggest game of the game

According to Fangraps WPA statistics (Win percentage added), the most important game of the game Mike Moustagas gave the Reds a 2-1 lead with 1 out in the 2 run home 4 out innings. The Reds increased their probability of winning that play by 20.5% (38.6% to 59.1%).

Positive

Mike Moustagas Scored the 7th and 8th home runs of the year. He entered the play today with .900 OPS in September. The mousse warms up just in time.

Freddie Calvis Scored the 7th home run of the year. This is very interesting for a guy who has been benched for Jose Garcia, while the Reds are trying to find a spark from a season. It looks like this is going to be the Calvis / Farmer Brigade going into the postseason, which I think looks good.

Michael Lawrence One guy wrote about everyone. He may have been the Reds’ most important player below the unnamed length of Trevor Boyer. He threw 3.1 brilliant innings tonight.

Riesel Iglesias Continues to dominate. He may have saved the game after Lucas Sims left the game early after a horrific situation in which he hit Buxton in the head. Rissell has had the best season of his entire life. Imagine reading it after the first week of the season.

Negatives

There may be some misspellings tonight. Sorry, I did my best. My hands trembled all night.

Not so random thoughts.

About some love David Bell? Everyone wanted him removed. Bell’s optimism and positivity drove everyone crazy when the Reds were 20-26. This optimism and positivity helped keep a sinking ship afloat for this incredibly late season run. Bell passed each string with flying colors.

David Bell became the first Reds manager after Jack McCain, one of his first two seasons with the Reds.

The Giants won the first game of their doubleheader, and as I type this they are losing 3-2 in the second game. The # 7 seed in the Reds Giants will be 1.0 games. It’s a big deal whoever finishes 7/8 because the # 8 Dodgers are playing. NL Central # 2 is still playing for the Reds. Of course there are still things to play, but the big hurdle has passed.
