Tesla Battery Day: Biggest Announcements

At Tesla’s Battery Day event, CEO Elon Musk made some big announcements: moves to remove cobalt from the company’s batteries, a new blade powertrain for the Model S that can go up to 200 mph, and plant production with a new cod to streamline its battery. Also, with the new battery technology, Musk said, Tesla will make a $ 25,000 car.

At a socially distant outdoor event, Musk and other providers addressed Tesla partners in parked cars, paying homage to their horns to indicate they agreed with the speakers’ comments – almost like a driver-movie / partner meeting.

Here are the highlights from Tesla’s 2020 Battery Day:

Tesla plans to produce its own “tableless” batteries, which will improve the range and power of its vehicles. Musk says the new batteries will be made at home, which will reduce costs and bring the selling price of Tesla electric cars closer to petrol-powered cars. This is expected to reduce Tesla’s cost per kilowatt hour, which is an important metric used to measure the battery packs of electric vehicles. Tables cells called Tesla 4860 cells (removes the tab that connects the Tesla cell and what it powers), making its batteries six times more powerful and increasing the range by 16 percent.

Tesla currently has its batteries sourced from Panasonic, and is likely to do so for some time, but moving home battery production has been on Muskin’s to-do list for some time; Shortage of those cells added to production delays in 2018. Kasturi has said The speed of Panasonic battery production slowed down the production of both the Model 3 and Model Y.

Musk has been teasing the blade powertrain for a while, which would be a step above its humorous model. It can charge up to 520 mph, reach 0-60 mph in two seconds, and go up to 200 mph. Price is listed as 9 139,990 on Tesla’s website. Musk had previously noted that a blade trim level would “cost more than our current offerings”. It will be available on the Model S in late 2021.

Musk said Tesla would build a new cathode plant for its batteries in North America as part of its search to reduce supply chain costs and facilitate production with catechins. This improves its process, making cathodes 76 percent cheaper and producing zero wastewater. The company also plans to diversify the cathodes it uses as nickel supply is low.

We do not know where the plant will be built with the new cat, but Musk said inside July announced by Tesla Its next factory will be in Austin, Texas, where he will “seriously consider” the runner-up city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, for future plans.

Tesla plans to eliminate the use of cobalt in its cathodes. Musk has said in the past that he would like to eliminate this altogether – even though Tesla’s current batteries use very little. Cobalt is often cut under Conditions that violate human rights, Which led to the motivation to find other materials to replace.

Musk did not provide a deadline for when the company would stop using cobalt, but said it would make its batteries significantly cheaper.

“It’s absolutely important that we build cars that people can actually buy,” he said. “Affordability is key to how we measure.”

Tesla plans to reduce the cost of its battery cells and packages, with a target of 25,000 electric cars. He said Tesla would reach this goal using its new “tableless” battery cells, which would replace the material inside the cell, which would allow Tesla to “cut in half” by one kilowatt hour.

This is not the first time Musk has predicted that Tesla will dramatically reduce the price of its electric cars. He first made his $ 25,000 EV in 2018. Promised a refund, which he said would be possible within three years.
