Georgia is a new political battleground

Until the 1970s, Georgia was almost a one-party country, dominated by conservative Democrats. But as conservative voters flocked to the Republican Party, Democrats rallied in places like Atlanta, nearby and urban Decatur, and small towns with significant African-American populations.

Over the past few years, however, hatred for Trumpism has spread and population change has erupted, giving Democrats a surprising new strength in Atlanta’s populous northern suburbs – such as the Cobb and Quinnate districts that were once strongholds of Republican power.

Hillary Clinton carried the Cope and Quinnet Districts when she lost the state in 2016. This year, Mr Biden beat them again. He increased the number of democratically elected voters in districts owned by Georgia’s most important secondary cities, Augusta, Columbus, Magon, Savannah and Athens.

In recent months, the epidemic has slowed the Georgia economy, with unemployment rising from 6.4 percent in September to 5.7 percent in August. Covit-19 cases are also on the rise; In the past week, there have been an average of 2,242 new cases per day, 42 percent increase On average two weeks ago.

A new generation of Democratic candidates has left the financial and social conservatism of its predecessors to embrace the rising population of black voters, college-educated suburban women and the younger generation involved in politics.

Mr. Although Biden’s victory was ultimately given by northern industrialized nations such as Pennsylvania, his slim margin in Georgia largely points to the future of the Democrats, a future that is clearly visible in Senate races.

Republicans will try to stop any democratic momentum, Mr. Mr. Biden’s strong performance. Hopes to show that it is about Trump’s divisive candidacy. As for Democrats, who won both seats, leaving the parties in the Senate with 50-50 divisions, Vice President Kamala Harris will vote by tiebreaking.
