Total chaos in the United States, but Joe Biden still has ten days to run for president. Will Donald Trump be charged, will the transfer of power take place without any problems? “The election results were clear and simple, but Trump is known, at least among his followers, to give the impression that he has been subjected to the greatest injustice,” explains Han Denbrook, director of political affairs at the HCSS think tank, on WNL Op Zondag.
After the election, Trump refused to accept the decision. “In sixty court cases and in the Supreme Court, there is a majority of judges who do not even want to hear that case. They rejected it. Even the voters, the governors, and the Republicans were clear.”
‘Resolution in the House again on Monday’
Trump could still be charged. “He was previously indicted by the House of Representatives, Ten Brooke notes.” Then it will be the first president to hold a second term. He was only there a few days. The process should then be expedited. There will be another resolution in the House on Monday, and Nancy Pelosi will do it, as soon as possible. But I can’t estimate whether that resolution will make it. ”
Another reason why Democrats continue to accuse Trump is that he can no longer run for president of the United States in 2024. “Donald Trump is currently doing all he can to complete his last days at the White House. Suddenly there was that talk, where he looked like a kind of hostage, and he said he would hand over power properly. The next day it was different again, he didn’t even want to change power. This is the essence of democracy: you are ready to admit your loss and transfer your power peacefully. ”
‘That hope is the most important thing’
If CDA leader Vopke Hoextra, as president, sows enough doubt about an election, if it is fair to all observers, some of the people will believe it. “If it keeps saying: there’s something wrong with it, it’s not right, you’re being deceived. It does something to the person you first trusted to vote for you.”
According to Hoaxstra, this is not good for democracy. “You believe that this is ultimately what keeps your citizens in the system. That belief is really the most important thing for democracy.”
