New features are in a test version of WhatsApp, reports WABetaINfo. This site selects such beta versions of WhatsApp in search of new features. Previously, the site already encountered the upcoming possibility of chat history bring from Android to iPhone or vice versa.
Till now, it is still impossible to take this WhatsApp chat history with you. Anyone switching from iPhone to Android must now quit all chats, photos and videos in WhatsApp.
Switching to a new phone number while keeping the chat history is already possible, but that includes a number of steps. In addition, passing the number is only possible as long as it is not also switched from Android to iPhone or vice versa.
Simplified steps
WhatsApp will streamline such a change in a future update. There will then be a menu option to switch to a new phone. This option explicitly asks if the phone number is also changed. WhatsApp says the step is only offered once: transferring chat history is only possible when changing phones and not after.
It is not yet known when the new feature will be available to all users. This will likely be related to the chat history encryption, also a step WhatsApp is still working on.
