WhatsApp was upgraded to its interface years ago and has been allowed to use the same theme ever since. WhatsApp has a dark theme, but you still get the same theme colors. A future WhatsApp update should change that, WaBetaInfo says.
WhatsApp gets themes
WhatsApp Currently has very limited customization options – basically you can only change the dark theme and background of conversations. Telegram is thus ahead of Facebook’s chat service by offering its users the possibility of customizing the colors of the Android application. This is not possible in WhatsApp, but it looks like it will change.

Notification of WaBetaInfo makes it clear that WhatsApp is doing internal testing with changing “theme colors”. This mainly concerns the colors of the bar at the top of conversations and those of chat bubbles. Details on customization options are still scarce at this point. The trial version would include a darker shade of green, but it’s unclear if other colors will eventually be added.
Since the feature is still “under development” according to the site, it’s still unclear what the themes will look like after the unveiling. There is also uncertainty about the arrival of themes on the Android application. WhatsApp is currently developing the function in its iOS app; there is no sign yet that this will end up in the Android app as well. There is a good chance that this will happen. The vast majority of WhatsApp functions are available on both platforms.
Features under development
In addition to the upcoming theme options for WhatsApp, the chat service is working on a range of other background functions. It was recently announced that the app will offer settings for the reading speed of personalize voice messages. WhatsApp also wants to provide backups of chat conversations password protection and the telegram goes after with an option images automatically disappear.
