The biologist and professor of evolutionary ecology Louise Vet will be the new Minister of Public Space. At least, if it depends on the participants of the webinar hosted by IPC Groene Ruimte, NL Greenlabel and Stichting Steenbreek. According to the participants, Fat is the best person to take central control in the fight against the climate problem.
The webinar “Who will be the premier of public space?” which took place on March 24, was organized to draw attention to an integrated and central approach to climate issues. Participants could submit candidates for ministerial post in advance.
Dismissal
During the webinar, various speakers and experts spoke to advocate for central and national monitoring of climate adaptation with the implementation of measures at the local level. NL Greenlabel founder Lodewijk Hoekstra said a lot is already happening in the area of climate, such as the national environmental vision and the Delta plan on biodiversity restoration. At the same time, he denounces “the death of the landscape”, referring to industrial zones and distribution centers which disrupt the Dutch landscape.
Integrated approach
Daan Zandbelt, former government advisor on physical living environment, advocated a shift from quantity to quality and from prosperity to well-being. “We have to relearn how to combine,” Zandbelt said in a conversation with Eddy Schabbink, senior advisor at IPC Green Space. Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, outgoing Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management, also said that an integrated approach was needed to address the main challenges facing the Netherlands.
Department of Public Space
The election of the Minister of Public Space took place at the end of the webinar. 32% of the participants chose Louise Vet. When forming a new firm, the initiators of the webinar will draw attention to a separate department of public space. Recently, more and more voices have called for the creation of a ministry like the old VROM. Public space is now divided between the ministries of I and W, LNV and the Interior.
