Since November, Porsche no longer sells used models equipped with the so-called Sport Chrono function in the United States. This allegedly violates the car’s environmental requirements.
The Sport Chrono Pack is an option that you can select when buying a new car. The models are recognizable by the stopwatch on the dashboard. They have three different driving modes. “Normal” is for everyday driving, “Sport” for winding roads and “Sport Plus” for extreme conditions, such as on a racetrack.
When driving in Sport Plus mode, models equipped with the Sport Chrono Package emitted more nitrogen oxide than was permitted. Porsche claims to have discovered the additional emissions itself and passed them on to NTSH, the US authority that verifies emissions standards, among others.
Update
The government agency declined to comment on the matter, but a Porsche spokesperson confirms that there has indeed been a sales freeze since November 2020 for 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera models from 2012 to model years. 2016. “It’s difficult to determine exactly which cars are involved, as not all cars were equipped with the often optional Sport Chrono package,” said the spokesperson. Inside the business community.
“And even though they are equipped with the package, not all model lines are affected,” the spokesperson said. According to him, Porsche is working on a software update, so that they can be resold again. Finally, the automaker will also perform repairs to customers’ vehicles if necessary. It is not known exactly when the update is complete, according to the spokesperson. According to him, the owners of an affected car are not at risk and new models are not affected.
