US President Donald Trump was at the White House for his last full day Order Signed to prevent abuse of US server services.
These are cloud services provided by US companies. These companies hold server-rich data centers and provide maintenance and administration.
Other individuals or companies may rent these servers, for example to run software or use them as digital storage space, so carry out cyber attacks from US soil.
With this decree, Trump wants the Department of Economy to lay down rules to identify foreigners who want to rent out servers. It is also possible that foreigners should not be allowed to use these cloud services for cyber attacks or if they act as intermediaries.
“What we have seen in this area is that this person is renting out thousands of parts of the US-based infrastructure and then selling it to the parties who use it.” Reuters.
Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, will become the new president of the United States on Wednesday, which could theoretically repeal the decree, but it is unclear how he views it. The committee handling the presidential transfer responded Reuters Not on request for comment.
