The 25th amendment provides that the vice-president assumes the functions of the president when he is no longer able to perform the functions associated with the function. Democrats presented a resolution to this effect on Monday. The House of Representatives is expected to vote this Tuesday later.
“The 25th Amendment poses no risk to me,” Trump said during a speech on a section of the South Texas border wall, a symbol of the strict migration policies he pursued during his four-year tenure.
At Alamo, Trump touted the border wall as a major achievement. “I kept my promises,” Trump said. “In the areas where the wall was built, the number of illegal border crossings has declined rapidly.” His government, he says, has ended the “immigration chaos” and restored sovereignty to the United States.
“The future government should not even think of tearing down the wall again,” he warned. Trump’s successor, future US Democratic President Joe Biden, will be sworn in on January 20.
Building the wall on the border with Mexico was one of Trump’s main commitments ahead of his election as president. The US Department of Homeland Security said in early January that border facilities were ready for a stretch of 720 kilometers. For the most part, however, Trump’s border wall only replaces already existing and outdated border facilities.
