The municipality must organize its own celebrations on King’s Day. This is the opinion of the Amsterdam youth branch of the VVD. According to them, there is more and more room for this due to vaccination and the availability of rapid tests. “If the municipality does not respond to this space, the people will do it themselves.”
On April 27, it is the second King’s Day which will be celebrated in lock-out. According to the JOVD, the youth branch of the VVD, the municipality should take the lead on this day. “These parties will come anyway,” said Amsterdam JOVD President Cesar van Rooij. “We propose to accept and act on this reality.”
Responsibility must be taken for the physical and mental well-being of the Amsterdammer, the party believes. “If the municipality doesn’t show some initiative here, it will really drop the Amsterdammer.”
No outside people
The Youth Day is thinking of a big site like RAI, “with quick tests at the door and registration in advance”. “By testing everyone in advance, but also by recording who exactly was there, we can party safely.”
However, events should only be accessible to Amsterdammers, the president said. “This way we prevent people from coming into town from outside and the number of trips is kept to a minimum.”
