Mechelen –
Woonpunt Mechelen is considering a new project with six social houses in the Gasthuisveldstraat. This is good news for the residents of Pennepoel, as there is also space for a neighborhood car park with 26 spaces.
The Catharina church factory still owns the land on which the social housing company is planning the project. “Here in the Gasthuisveldstraat we are opting for three new family houses, three new apartments and a neighborhood car park,” says Arthur Orlians (Vld-Groen-m +), chairman of Woonpunt. The transfer of ownership between the company and the church plant will likely take place in the middle of this year.
During the construction of the project, the neighborhood car park will first serve as a work site. It is only then that the construction of the parking spaces begins. The city has released a grant of 57,000 euros for this purpose. “With the ambition to open two district car parks per year, we, as town hall, are now working on the fifth district car park. The site is located in a neighborhood with high parking pressure. This gives the neighborhood more space to breathe, ”says Vicky Vanmarcke (Vld-Groen-m +), Mobility advisor.
