KAPELLE – The new sports complex to be built on the Vroonlandseweg in Kapelle will be called De Bloesem.

The jury chose this name from among 140 nominations, with names submitted several times. The top five also included Saamsport, De Bok, Sportcentrum Kapelle and Sport’ier.

The inhabitants of the municipality of Kapelle were invited to think about the new name. The jury was made up of Kapelse Sports Advisor Jon Herselman, Kapelse Children’s Mayor Steyn Almekinders and representatives of Kapelse Sports Council, De Bevelanders Swimming Club and Olympia Gym Club.

The previous name of the sports center, Het Groene Woud, has caused confusion according to the municipality. This name also refers to the football fields and a surrounding street. That’s why Kapelle looked for a new name. She profiles herself as the Zeeland flower, which is why she thinks it’s an appropriate and recognizable name. According to the advisor, De Bloesem is also linked to the many sports that will be practiced there. “Athletes can thrive here in their subsequent sporting endeavors.

Entrants with the winning name will receive a prize. The new sports center will open its doors in the summer of 2022.
