Thirteen coastal car parks have already been rented from the Water Board and seven more will be added this year: Langstraat in Zoutelande and Joossesweg, Zuidstraat, Hogeweg, Einde K. de Vosweg, Baaiweg and Trommelweg in Westkapelle. It is the end of the street which ends on the coast.
At a later date, three more locations will be added to the deal: Westduin near Dishoek and Bucksweg and Zeedijk in Westkapelle. The latter place is mainly used in summer campers and cars are parked in rows.
Need more time
This does not mean that payment has to be made at each coastal location tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or later this month. “Preparations for the seven new sites that we are leasing to the water authority are still taking some time. When we are setting up paid parking there, we are doing so in consultation with the stakeholders,” said the municipality.
The revenue the municipality derives from paid parking is used to improve facilities on the beach and on the coast. The municipality plans, for example, to improve dune crossings, accessible beaches and showers. In addition, the coastal parking lots are being renovated one by one. For example, toilets and charging stations for electric cars will be installed here.
