The Sebring 12 Hour Race is the oldest sports car race in the United States. Ten years older than the Daytona race, and a hundred times more atmosphere and character. This weekend, the 69th edition of the classic race took place on the track of the old military airfield. For Porsche it was a successful event with victories in both GT categories, bringing the total number of class wins for Porsche at Sebring to 100. Vierenzestig.nl shows the most beautiful photos of Porsche house photographer Jürgen Tap.
For identification, in the GTLM category there was a Porsche 911 RSR, the WeatherTech Racing car with the start number 79, driven by the American Cooper MacNeil and two Porsche factory drivers, the Frenchman Mathieu Jaminet and Australian Matt Campbell. This trio won the class against the two factory Corvettes and the two factory BMWs, securing Porsche’s victory in the GTLM class for the fourth year in a row.
There were four 911 GT3 Rs in the GTD class. The Canadian Pfaff Motorsports team drove the starting number 9 in the classic Canadian “checkered” outfit with Canadian driver Zach Robichon, Belgian factory driver Laurens Vanthoor and German test driver Lars Kern. With the starting number 16, the blue-green, came into action with the American factory driver Patrick Long, the Belgian Jan Heylen and the American Trent Hindman. The white-gray 911 GT3 R with the sponsorship of Richard Mille of the Hardpoint-EBM team with the starting number 88 had a full female line-up with Danish Christina Nielsen, Briton Katherine Legge and Brazilian Bia Figueredo. Finally, the Porsche Hartpoint EBM bearing the number 99 was driven by Americans Rob Feriol and Trenton Estep and team-mate Earl Bamber from New Zealand. The Pfaff-Porsche won the class, the Wright-911 finished second.
As always, Jürgen Tap, a German with a Dutch passport and widely recognized as one of the best motorsport photographers, was hired by Porsche to document the performance of the Porsche teams. This resulted in a huge amount of photos, which would be a shame if they were left unused in the digital archive. That’s why, just like earlier this year, Vierenzestig.nl will present the best shots of the event in Sebring from Daytona, thanks to the photographer and the Porsche AG press service!
