The Irish Data Regulator could resume an investigation into data flows from Facebook between the EU and the United States. The Irish Supreme Court on Friday rejected an attempt by a technology company to block the trial.
The Irish Data Monitoring Group has previously launched an investigation into the social media company DBC for violating privacy rules. Facebook faces huge penalties if the rules are violated.
According to the Irish court, Facebook has not put forward any valid reasons to compete in the regulator’s decision. According to the judge, the work of the supervisor was not flawed either.
Following the verdict, an interim order from the DBC was followed. In it, it was stated that Facebook can no longer use standard contract terms in accordance with the Privacy Rules when sending data to the United States.
The Irish regulator is the main privacy authority for Facebook and many other US technology companies with European sites such as Apple and Google in Ireland. That is, the final decision will set the course for data transfer for multiple companies under Irish supervision.
