Alef Aeronautics, a California automaker, announcement which he received permission from the American aeronautical authorities to test with the “Model A” of the flying car. This is the first time in the United States that there has been official permission for such a vehicle to take flight. The project is backed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, among others.
“It brings everyone closer to a faster, more environmentally friendly ride,” said Jim Dukhovny, director of Alef Aeronautics. “It can save people and businesses hours.”
Dukhovny calls the test approval a “giant step” in the transportation world. It is not true that the vehicle can immediately hit the road and take off. He expects this to be possible only in 2025, said director earlier and then probably only in certain places. There is still a lot of regulation to be done.
Fly 180 kilometers
Alef’s flying car can take off vertically and horizontally and can hold two people. On the road, this car can travel more than 300 kilometers before needing to be recharged. It can fly about 180 kilometers.
Although it is still far away, you can already sign up for such a flying car. You can join the waiting list for $150. If you deposit $1500, you get priority when the first delivery is done. Hundreds of people have already done it, the company reports.
Many other automakers are also working with aviation parts on flying cars. Chinese car brand Xpeng has already held public test flights with its X2 flying car last year.
Stellantis, the parent company of car brands like Opel, Peugeot and Fiat, is working on an electric air taxi. South Korean Hyundai has already shown a concept of such an air taxi in 2022.
Late last year, Renault entered into a partnership with aircraft manufacturer Airbus to develop a new generation of electric batteries and hybrid technology for cars and planes. Airbus is also working with Audi to develop a ‘drone car‘.
