First Lady Mellisa Santokhi donated SRD 500 vouchers to residents of La Vigilantia complex in Para district. The first lady donated the coupons to 400 households at this complex on Tuesday. The First Lady was there in person not only to hand out the coupons, but also to wish the people a happy and blessed Easter.
The Institute of the First Lady has been visiting households in different regions for some time. The first lady is aware of the needs of society and tries to meet those who need it most with coupons. Instead of pre-selected product packages, coupons are provided to allow people to purchase the items of their choice at the designated location.
The inhabitants greatly appreciated the initiative and the presence of the first lady. “I’m glad she took the initiative to support us” and “We will make good use of it” were some of the responses.
The institute has already issued coupons to needy households in Paramaribo-Center, Commewijne and Nickerie. In addition, health workers also received donations from the first lady.
