A FedEx plane carrying the region’s first shipment landed at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday night, the airport said.

“The first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in LAX in Lux Angels,” the airport tweeted. “This is an important milestone for science, our country and our community. Thanks to everyone who made this distribution possible and part of an incredible effort to distribute the vaccine worldwide.”
The vaccine, which is administered in two doses at three-week intervals, is expected to be first received by health workers.
The first shipment left Pfizer plant in Michigan this weekend and was shipped to 145 locations across the country on Monday via FedEx and UPS. Exports to 425 more locations will be available on Tuesday.
In Los Angeles, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center says it expects to receive its first vaccine dose on Tuesday. UCLA Health expects to deliver the levels by Wednesday.
“We are talking about people who have repeated contact with COVID-19 and patients who are suspected of having COVID-19,” said Dr. Robert Cherry, Chief Medical and Quality Control Officer at UCLA Health. . “We want to make sure that we give priority to vaccinating those medical providers.”
California as a whole expects to receive 327,000 doses in the first package.
Along with health workers, military bases in Alameda and San Diego will also be among the first to be vaccinated, the Department of Defense said.
Residents of long-term health care facilities are also expected to be the first to be vaccinated nationwide.
The exact deadline for the general public to receive the vaccine has not been specified, but it is expected to be correct by 2021.
