The United States will impose sanctions on the Russian pipeline and its owner KVD-RUS, which is involved in the construction of the controversial North Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany. The Americans informed the German government about this. The exact nature of the sentence has not been released.
Angered by the Washington government, German authorities recently allowed the project to proceed. The ship in question, the Fortuna, is currently anchored in the Baltic Sea near Rostock.
Most of the pipeline is already over, but there is still a lot of controversy about it. The United States is opposed to the pipeline because it will give Moscow more influence in Western Europe. The U.S. government has repeatedly threatened to grant permission to companies participating in construction. Incumbent President Joe Biden has also opposed Nord Stream 2 in the past.
