Tesla recalls 135,000 cars, blaming Nvidia

Electric car maker Tesla recalls 135,000 Model S and Model X cars in the United States. Those cars built between 2012 and 2018 may have touchscreen issues that control almost all of the car’s functions. According to Tesla, the problems were caused by the Nvidia chips used by the company.

Last month, the U.S. The Road Safety Board (NHDSA) has called on Tesla to return 158,000 Model S and Model X cars to the garage. The service called it a defect in remembering problems with touchscreens. Tesla did not accept this, but now solves the problems anyway.

Defects can cause the reverse camera and automated pilot system and turn signal to not work well. Systems to prevent windscreen fog or frost are also affected by the defect.

Significant number

135,000 cars is a significant number for Tesla. Last year the company built about 500,000 vehicles. It was less than 380,000 a year ago. In addition, the Model 3 and Model Y variants, which are cheaper than the Model S and Model X, are a significant part of this.

It was not immediately clear whether Tesla would also be recalled outside the United States. At the beginning of last year there were about 18,000 models S and X on the Dutch road.
