‘TeamNL Rowing’ on day one of World Cup III

Something you don’t often see in an international tournament, let alone a World Cup: time trials as a pre-match. Seven of TeamNL’s twelve boats qualified for Saturday’s semi-final or Sunday’s A-final in Lucerne today. Karolien in the single sculls, Stef and Melvin in the doubles and the men in the single sculls did it with the best time in their peloton.

The best time in her series and also the fastest in the quarter-finals: Karolien immediately shows in her confident skiff that she came to Switzerland for nothing less than gold.

Back in the skiff, Martine’s first time was good enough for a place in the quarter-finals. She was there, among others, against Karolien. With a sixth place in this second race, tomorrow morning Final D will be the conclusion.

Tosca Kettler (LW1x)

After the time trial and the revenge in the light single sculls, the B final awaits tomorrow Tosca, who traveled alone to Lucerne.

On day one, Nelson Ritsema and Abe Wiersma also had to cross the track twice as a duo without. After the time trial, they placed third in the quarter-finals. The C final awaits tomorrow.

With Véronique and Ymkje left on the Bosbaan as a precaution, Willemijn Mulder and Ilse Kolkman are the only women to go two without in Lucerne. With the fifth best time of the heat, a place in the semi-finals was then assured in the repechage.

Willemijn: “The first international races of this World Cup were very exciting, but also very cool because all the boats of our second chance stayed side by side for a long time.

An enthusiastic Stef Broenink after the doubles time trial with Melvin Twellaar in which they set the fastest time: “The first day of racing was great! Especially considering that we are training this weekend. We are curious to see what awaits us in the coming days. »

Tomorrow, the duo awaits the semi-finals.

The newly formed women’s doubles with Nika Vos and Lisa Scheenaard raced their way to the semifinals on Saturday with the second-fastest time in the heat.

Behind New Zealand, the men’s Vierzonder are second in their series. Enough for a place in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Niki van Sprang: “A time trial like this is a crazy way to start the weekend. It was a great first race, but when you’re on your own at the start, it feels more like you’re doing a practice distance than a real race, but that’s probably why it’s good to practice some time in time. Either way, we’re looking forward to the real race starting tomorrow!

TeamNL Women’s Vierzonder finished third fastest in the trial, which is not enough to advance directly to the A final. Tomorrow afternoon they are at the start of the rematch.

The fastest time in the peloton takes the men’s doubles with Koen Metsemakers, Tone Wieten, Finn Florijn and Lennart van Lierop straight to Sunday’s A final.

The renewed female sculls double with Bente Paulis, Laila Youssifou, Tessa Dullemans and Roos de Jong takes the win in the heat. The A final awaits Sunday, notably against the Chinese world champion.

It was just over a second this time: the difference in the time trial between the British Eight and the Holland Eight, in favor of the former. Tomorrow, therefore, the revenge of Dieuwke and his men awaits them. The top four will advance to Sunday’s final.
