Team USA sends some non-stars to the Basketball World Cup

The World Basketball Championship will take place in Asia from August 25 to September 11. Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia are the host countries. The record holder Team USA (5 world titles) is also present, although the absolute stars shine in their absence.

National coach Steve Kerr, normally coach of the Golden State Warriors, announced his selection for the World Cup on Thursday. In the previous tournament, the NBA stars had to return home after the quarter-finals after elimination against France. Even then, the big stars stayed home.

Selection
Names like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant are not on Team USA’s roster. Still, the team has enough quality. For example, Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Jars Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers). Orlando Magic Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero also features.

Additionally, the team consists of Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Austin Reaves (LA Lakers), Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets), Josh Hart (New York Knicks), Cameron Johnson ( Brooklyn Nets), Walker Kessler (Utah Jazz) and Bobby Portis (Milwaukee Bucks).

The American team is in the group with New Zealand, Jordan and Greece. In the latter country, the star player Giannis Antetokounmpo still raises doubts. The new NBA season begins on October 24.
