State of emergency in Washington until January 24, FBI warns of armed protests

President Donald Trump approved the declaration of a state of emergency in Washington on Monday. The state of emergency will be in effect until January 24, four days after Biden’s inauguration.

Certainly in Washington there are security problems after Parliament was stormed last Wednesday. An armed group is reportedly planning to travel to Washington on Saturday to stand up there if attempts are made to remove President Trump from office. The House of Representatives did so earlier on Monday took the first steps.

Due to the threats, many actions have already been taken or announced as the inauguration approaches. The National Guard is authorized to provide up to 15,000 men for the ceremony to take place safely.

The mayor of the city of Washington and the governors of the adjacent U.S. states of Virginia and Maryland have urged the public not to attend Biden’s inauguration.

Capitol police have been criticized for storming the Capitol. The police department was reportedly unprepared and accused of not daring to intervene against Trump supporters. At least two policemen were suspended and one policeman arrested. Ten to fifteen police officers are still under investigation.
