South Patre Island, Texas – The shores of Isla Blanca Park are expected to be the destination for hundreds of astronauts and islanders to see a test launch site across the water at SpaceX’s starship facility in Boca Chica, Texas.
As the Starship SN8 launch is ridiculous, it has found a lot of tourists walking the streets of South Badre Island. View of the SpaceX launch site a few miles across the water.
“Everyone wants to see this happen,” said James Baxter, a Houston native and transplant surgeon from South Patre Island.
Tourists like Eric and Tommy Patton travel from Maryland and stay for several days hoping to catch the SN8 prototype Eve.
“When we heard about SpaceX and that awesome dude, Elon Musk, we absolutely loved it! He said, ‘I’m got a rocket in three years’. It’s been 1 year!”
“When we were in California [SpaceX] Last thing I did, ”said Tommy Patton. “We were watching, I was crying. I was so excited!”
They did not think they would leave South Badre Island.
“We have a place for 30 days now and we are looking for a place to stay,” Eric Patton said.
There has been an increase in business since local shops and businesses migrated to the city of SpaceX miles away.
“In Brownsville, even in the surrounding areas … hotels … a lot of them are occupied by SpaceX staff,” Baxter said.
Baxter hails from a space city and is now creating a life close to growing space.
“I grew up in Houston,” Baxter said. “Every time the engine shoots we hear and feel the noise!”
Anna Lyson works at a local store in Patre Boulevard, Calipso.
“People said it was only for everyone who retired,” Lyson said. “I don’t think so anymore. A lot of the younger generation here is taking root as part of this.”
He is uniquely affected by SpaceX.
“My husband works at SpaceX, and I am very proud to say that my husband works at SpaceX, and we actually moved from the Pennsylvania area to SBI.
He said he sees it as a good thing for businesses and social structure, but not everyone is on board.
“There are some people who are not very happy with SpaceX coming here, but at the same time many are very excited,” Lyson said.
