Russia will expel ten American diplomats in response to new sanctions imposed by the United States. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov announced it.
At least eight US government officials will also be on a sanctions list, and Lavrov says he is considering “painful measures” against US companies in Russia.
Influencing the US Elections
Yesterday the United States told ten Russian diplomats the country switch off in response to a major Russian hack that hit a number of government agencies last year. Russia has also reportedly tried to influence the US presidential elections last year.
Russia has reacted with fury and is now expelling the same number of American diplomats from the country.
Following in the footsteps of the United States, Poland has decided to send three Russian diplomats home because, according to Poland, they “carry out activities which harm Poland”. Russia in turn expels five Polish diplomats.
Top in Europe
US President Biden said earlier today that he wants to work on improving relations with Russia. He suggested having one this summer top in Europe organize.
Minister Lavrov said Russia was positive about the offer of such a summit and was studying the proposal.
