Drenthe is making a grant of 170,000 euros available to companies which cannot start their energy project due to insufficient space on the electricity network. The money is intended to study the feasibility of alternatives to a grid connection.
Depending on the province, the initiators of sustainable energy projects in Drenthe are grappling with the obstacles of network congestion or the scarcity of transport. Due to insufficient space on the power grid, they cannot supply electricity to the power grid through their project.
With the grant, they can ask a professional counselor to research alternatives. A grant of up to 90 percent of eligible counseling costs is available per application, with a maximum of 4,500 euros.
Is the roof suitable?
Money is also available for sustainable energy production and energy savings related to buildings. Contractors can use the grant, for example, to research whether their roof is suitable for solar panels or to get advice on how to make the roof more robust.
For sustainable production and energy savings, entrepreneurs can receive a maximum of 50 percent grant from the program for consulting costs up to a maximum of 1,500 euros.

Battery system at the Nieuw-Buinen football club
An example of an alternative connection option is the battery system of the Nieuw-Buinen football club. The club stores the energy they generate with their solar panels via the battery system and uses it, among other things, for pitch lighting.
According to Deputy Tjisse Stelpstra, there are many entrepreneurs and sports associations in Drenthe who want to become more sustainable. “That is why we also want to lower the threshold for entrepreneurs to invest in energy savings with this program.”
