The ad agency that made the video, DOB Philippines, apologized and called it an “unfortunate mistake”, the Philippine newspaper reported. Philstar. “The use of these foreign archival images is highly inappropriate and contrary to the objectives of the Ministry of Tourism.”
The whole campaign would have cost more than 800,000 euros. According to the Ministry of Tourism, no public money was used for the video. The ministry said in a response that it would not hesitate “to take the necessary measures to protect the interests of the country”.
The new campaign replaces the previous one with the slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines”. No replacement promotional video has yet been made.
