Pentagon to drop all Trump border wall construction plans abroad

Trump managed to free up the Pentagon budget for the project by declaring the border situation an emergency.

Current President Joe Biden announced in January that he would end construction of the border wall. “Along with the president’s proclamation, the Defense Ministry will end all border wall construction projects paid for with money originally intended for other military missions,” a Pentagon spokesman said on Friday. “Today’s action demonstrates this government’s commitment to defend our country and support our soldiers and their families,” added the spokesperson.

Trump launched his presidential campaign in 2015 with a promise to build a wall on the US-Mexico border and make Mexico pay for it. Mexico refused, however, and also from the House of Representatives, where Democrats won a majority in 2018, Trump did not get a dime for his wall. In the end, Trump bypassed Parliament and made the controversial decision to pay for the wall with Pentagon money, forcing the Defense Department to release billions of dollars for the project.
