While both the Packers and Saints worked without their top wide receiver on Sunday night, both teams leaned on their running backs, with high volumes of short, quick shots. The first half’s solo play came in absolutely beautiful play-action bass from Aaron Rodgers to Alan Lazard, which then set Lazard a touchdown toss in motion. Rodgers finished 9th out of 16 for 104 yards and gave Lazard the score, which was considered a play-action bootleg similar to the big gain.
As for the Saints, Alvin Camara did almost all the damage, carrying the rock four times for 56 yards and pulling in 61 yards and seven passes per touchdown. Drew Breeze seemed reluctant to throw the ball down, instead he wanted to check for more comfortable goals. However, those short passes allowed the Saints to move in a decent clip, and the last one of the half helped pull past the rocky opening. With six seconds left, Breeze found Emmanuel Sanders in the middle of Sanders’ first score of a Saint to give New Orleans a 17-13 lead at the break.
