The grounds in preparation for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand are not yet very favorable for the Orange Lionesses. In Sydney, the selection of national coach Andries Jonker has again moved to another field. “Certainly not the area we are used to.”
The Orange Lionesses arrived in Sydney at the weekend in preparation for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, which kicks off for the Netherlands on July 23 with a game against Portugal. There, after a 22-hour flight, the first short training session immediately ended at Sydney FC’s training complex, but the turf there was not in the best condition.
“It looks a bit like a carpet,” national coach Andries Jonker said of the pitch in Sydney. “It kind of begs the question, is the ball bouncing? Well, it’s bouncing. It’s like shock absorption under your feet. This is definitely not the court we’re used to, we’re going so look around to see if we can find even better ground, but if it’s the best ground we’ll be happy to train here,” he told ESPN. Today, however, it has been decided to move the training to another area.
Earlier in the preparation for the World Cup the Orange Lionesses were already surprised through stones and shards on a training ground in Escaren. During the training week in Limburg, the EGS’20 pitches against the Orange Under-19s would be practiced, but due to the discovery, among other things, of shards that had come off during the scarification of the field, they returned to training. land in Horst.

The Orange Lionesses train in Sydney on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday ahead of a behind-closed-doors practice match against South Korea on Sunday. This is not an official international match. There will also be training next Monday, after which Jonker’s side will travel to Tauranga in New Zealand.
