Van den Hil was formerly an X-ray technician in Zeeland hospitals and later held managerial positions in the care of the elderly in various locations in Zeeland Flanders and Bevelanden; more recently at Ter Valcke in Goes.
Little political experience
She had been involved in politics for some time, but out of sight of the outside world. Van den Hil was involved in the VVD on the Bevelanden, but did not sit on a city council. When she announced to her party that she wanted to become politically active and that she also wanted to enter the House of Representatives, she went through “a whole process”.
After being nominated by the VVD in Zeeland, she had a whole series of conversations, including former party chairman Klaas Dijkhoff. She doesn’t see her lack of political experience as a problem. “I have my direct practical health care and Zeeland experience in my backpack. I think it’s nice to be able to jump right into politics with your feet from Zeeland clay. And then I will sometimes encounter something. But we take this for granted, ”van den Hil told Omroep Zeeland earlier.
Van den Hil received 1,967 preferential votes in the elections. She leaves to herself only Barbara Oomen, member of the PvdA, from Middelburg, who received 4,754 preference votes. Because the PvdA did not win any seats and there weren’t enough preferential votes, Oomen, in 20th place, was not in the House of Representatives.
Maybe another Zeeuw in the House of Representatives
The new House of Representatives has no other Zeeland MPs than van den Hil. There is still a chance that CDA member Joba van den Berg will return from Goes. She was in position 16. If the CDA participates in a new cabinet and the CDA members at the top of the list move on to a post of minister or secretary of state, van den Berg will likely be installed.
