Nintendo Switch has sold a total of almost 80 million times, Nintendo is making it its own quarterly figures known. With this, the game console overtakes the Nintendo 3DS, which sold just under 76 million.
It’s been a good quarter for the Nintendo Switch. The game console has been shipped 11.6 million times. Compared to the same period a year earlier, this represents an increase of 7%.
That the Switch passes the 3DS was in line with expectations. Nintendo stopped production of the Nintendo 3DS last year after selling the handheld since 2011. The normal Nintendo DS without 3D function has been sold a lot more: 154 million times.
The Nintendo Switch is now heading towards total Game Boy Advance sales. This device has been sold 81.5 million times.
It was also a good quarter for Nintendo in terms of game sales. So has become Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold about four million times. With 33.4 million copies sold, this game is still Nintendo’s best-selling game on Switch.
Animal Crossing: New horizons also exceeded the limit of 30 million copies sold. This game has now been sold 31.2 million times.
