New Zealand police have designed a scarf that will be part of the official uniform. After the Christchurch attacks, they hired a new recruit, who will be the first to wear the uniform with a built-in headscarf.

His entry into the New Zealand police force is a first. Zeena Ali, 30, becomes the first officer in history to wear a police-designed scarf. She graduated successfully last week.

To create this official uniform respecting the faith of Muslim officers, the police teamed up with the Muslim student from the Royal New Zealand Police College. Adding his vision and making recommendations, the new recruit helped design this uniform. She was wearing the uniform when she graduated.

In a speech, she expressed her pride in wearing the New Zealand Police headscarf. She believes that by wearing this uniform, she could arouse the appeal of many Muslim women. “If we have more women and a more diverse front line, we can reduce crime even better,” she said.
