Last week, some children with preschools and special needs were allowed back into the buildings, and middle and high schools are scheduled to bring in live learning on Thursday.
The Department of Education says employees in at least 150 New York City school buildings have tested positive for Covit-19.
“As we continue the realities of an epidemic, there will be positive cases – we put the health of the people above all else by quickly identifying and isolating positive events to prevent further spread,” said DOE spokeswoman Miranda Barbot.
“Beginning in October, the monthly random check in all schools must continue to be widespread and our communities must be safe.”
There are early education centers in school buildings with employee infections, which are independent, community-based organizations that partner with the city’s education department to provide free full-day, high-quality pre-Q, a city official previously told CNN.
Concerns about explosions
There is a lot of focus in New York, not only from directly affected families, but most of the largest school districts in the United States have opted for a completely online experience to begin the school year.
The overall rate of positive Govt tests across New York City is about 1%, but eruptions in Brooklyn and Queens generate up to 17% positive rates in some neighborhoods.
New York State Andrew Cuomo said Monday that the government would provide 200 rapid testing machines to areas where clusters of the virus have been identified and urged schools to request one if needed.
“We’re going to get daily test numbers so we can tell on a daily basis what’s really going on with testing with teachers and students in NYC schools,” he said.
“We will act prudently in terms of numbers, but I get the concern of the Association of Principals that we will take care of the numbers very carefully.”
On Sunday, the New York City Association of Principals and School Administrators announced that they had voted unanimously in favor of De Blasio and the principal of schools, calling on the state Department of Education to intervene.
Cuomo said the government would take action if necessary.
“What we see now with this Brooklyn cluster is that we have to go to the bottom of it. But data is important, we act on data.”
CNN’s Mirna Al-Sharif contributed to the report.
