VELP – After a move, subsequent refurbishment and lockdown, the time has finally come for New Space to reopen.
On Sunday May 2, the first exhibition, new style, can be admired in the building of the former Nassauschool on the Oranjestraat in Velp. This exhibition will be provided by Artist of the Month, Jasper van Deutekom. Which in turn brings together three other artists and takes care of the exhibition together.

Jasper has worked for over thirty years as a drawing and craft teacher. And started drawing and painting about fifteen years ago. Over two years ago, he stopped teaching and began to devote himself entirely to artistic creation.
“I didn’t wake up one morning,” Jasper said, And tell my boss’I will not come today“It was a process of years. I had exhibited for years and I was less and less in front of the class. You got to do the education all the way, you can’t do that halfway, so you can’t do these kids. So I just had to choose.
This choice turned out to be the right one, and Jasper has made a name for himself as a painter, moving from impressionist to realistic work in recent years. From his workshop in the De Transformation building in Arnhem, he creates works in which the human being is often central.

“I paint what I meet,” Jasper explains, “Things I like. Often people. Because where people happened, something happened. He says he works from photos he just takes on the street, sometimes a little secretly. “Because then you catch people as they really are, if they don’t realize they’re being photographed, because then they often stand in front of them.”
“You can often see in detail from someone’s posture whether someone is old or young, or whether someone is happy or sad, or whether someone is feeling well. I really like to see it, it tells a story. I really appreciate when people can relate to it, when they can get in between. “
The three artists that Jasper brings are:
- Marie-Hélène Marbus, she will show her impressionist drawings.
- Marco Arwert, a graphic designer whose ink prints will be presented.
- José Sprenkels is best known for his small landscapes which can also be an abstract image.
Want to discover the work of these four very diverse artists? And do you want to finally be able to enjoy art again? Then meet on Sunday May 2, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Oranjestraat 36A in Velp.
You can of course come spontaneously, but you can also make an appointment with Jasper at 06-21457699. The entrance is from the TerpenTijn side. The exhibition is always open all month, every Sunday.
