New COVID-19 infections set high mark in southern Utah – St. George News

S.D. George – Election day may have come, the Corona virus reminded southern Utah residents Wednesday.

The Utah Department of Health said there were 139 new COVID-19 infections in southern Utah on Wednesday, more than a single day since the outbreak began in March.

Washington County led with 100 new cases, while Iron County saw its first corona virus-related death since September 25; Hospitalized man aged 65 to 84 years.

Since late September the region and the state have seen a steady increase in infections, hospitalizations and deaths from the virus. The governor approves additional public health restrictions on Oct. 13 The county of Washington, Beaver and Garfield are under mandatory mask restrictions.

Those admitted to hospital Tuesday in southern Utah reached the highest level, with 35 locals admitted to hospital with the virus. That number dropped to 30 on Wednesday.

The government has seen the second worst day overall since the outbreak. One and a half months ago, the government celebrated at a news conference with Gary Herbert that the government was declining to an average of 400 new infections a day.

As of Wednesday, that average was 1,803 a day, with 2,110 new infections and hospitalizations nationwide reaching new highs.
