Netflix now has over 200 million paying subscribers, which is pretty impressive.
Most of the subscribers still come from the United States and Canada. There, the company has 73.94 million. Growth is still limited there: only 900,000 subscribers were added in the zones in the last quarter.
Europe, Middle East and Africa
Netflix has mainly seen growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. There, it grew by 4.5 million paying subscribers, bringing the total to 66.7 million in those regions.
Netflix’s annual revenue is $ 20 billion. A nice sum, because Netflix claims to no longer have to take out loans for daily operations. Netflix still has debt between $ 8 billion and $ 12 billion.
Netflix expects the next quarter to grow from the current 203 million paying subscribers to 209 million. This makes it by far the largest streaming service in the world.
The competition
Netflix was impressed with the performance of Disney +, which is currently a huge success with almost 75 million subscribers. “It’s really impressive what Disney has done,” Hastings said. “It is an incredible achievement for such a well established party to achieve this.”
However, Disney + is not yet approaching Netflix. This goes for Amazon Prime Video with its 150 million paid subscribers and the Chinese Tencent Video (which is active in the Middle East and countries in East Asia), with 120 million subscribers.
