NASA Curiosity Takes Selfie With ‘Mary Annining’ On Red Planet – NASA’s Mars Exploration Program

Since its arrival in July, the Mars rover has drilled three sample rocks in this clay-rich area.

NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover has a new selfie. This latest came from a place called “Mary Annie” after 19ThThe century-old English paleontologist who discovered sea-reptile fossils has been neglected for generations because of his gender and class. The rover is on site Since last July, drill samples have been taken and analyzed.

This selfie, made up of 59 images put together by imaging experts, was taken on October 25, 2020 – the 2,922nd Tuesday of Curiosity’s mission, or Soul.

Scientists in the Curiosity group thought it appropriate to name the sample site after Anning because of the energy of the area that reveals details about the ancient environment. Curiosity uses a rock drill at the end of its robotic arm to “Mary Annie,” “Mary Annie 3,” and “Broken, “This last name is the name given to a cliff in the Shetland Islands of Scotland.

Since touching Gale Greater in 2012, Curiosity has been climbing the Sharp Mount in search of conditions that could have supported life at one time. This past year, Rover Glen explored part of the Sharp Mountain known as the Doridon, which held lakes and streams billions of years ago. Scientists suspect that high concentrations of clay minerals and organic molecules were found there.

It took several months for the team to explain the chemistry and minerals in the samples from the Mary Annning site. Meanwhile, there were scientists and engineers Commands the rover from their homes As a safety precaution during corona virus infections, it led Curiosity to continue climbing its Sharp Mountain. Rover’s next study target is a layer Sulfate-rich rock It is at the top of the hill. The team hopes to achieve that by the beginning of 2021.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Caltech in Pasadena, California, leads the Curiosity mission. Curiosity took a selfie with the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) camera located at the end of its robot arm. (Watch videos explaining how Curiosity’s selfies are taken Here.) MAHLI was built by Malin Space Science Organizations in San Diego.
