The body of a Texas man was found after authorities believed it was a deadly mountain lion attack.
Christopher Alan Whitley, 28, was reported missing in Liban, Texas, early Wednesday morning. The Hood County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday. Whitley’s body was found in a nearby wooded after a search.
An initial report from the Torrent County Medical Examiner’s Office found that Whitley may have died from a wild animal attack.
The Hood County Sheriff’s Office said it was working to locate the mountain lion suspected of killing Whiteley. Delegates work with Texas Sports Wardens and a government engineer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Residents in the area were asked to remain vigilant and keep the animals indoors at night until the animal that caused Whitley’s death was found.
“The safety of Hood County citizens is my priority, but please do not interfere with the search for the animal and be clear from the area where the officers are actively working,” Hood County Sheriff Roger Deats said.
There were no confirmed mountain scenes in Hood County before Whitley’s death, According to NBC Dallas.
