McLaren announced Monday afternoon that it has signed a long-term contract with 13-year-old kart driver Ugo Ugochukwu. The American won the FIA OKJ European Championship last year.
Promising talent
McLaren will support his development in the years to come and has an option on Ugochukwu to let him run for McLaren in the future. “Ugo is a promising young talent with strong development prospects”McLaren Formula 1 team manager Andreas Seidl told Motorsportweek.com. “Although he is still early in his career, it is clear that he has the ingredients for success in the sport.”
Ugochukwu has gone on to go karting championships since 2014. First in the United States, later also in Europe. “I am honored to have been signed by such an iconic team as McLaren Racing so early in my career” tells about the collaboration to the young talent.
“It’s great to have the support of McLaren and that’s what a young driver dreams of,” vervolgt Ugochukwu. “I am now focused on development as a driver and racer, so having McLaren by my side can only help me on and off the track.”
