LSU fights COVID-19 eruption before Alabama game

The annual confrontation between LSU and Alabama could now be in jeopardy following the eruption of a Govt-19 in LSU’s football program.

On Monday, LSU head coach Ed Argeron revealed that several LSU players had tested positive for COVID-19 or were in isolation as a result of contact tracking.

“We deal with COVID and contact tracking. I can not go into detail. This is a very fluid situation,” Orgon said. “We have some players in COVID and some players in isolation.”

Oregon confirmed that the starting players for the team were part of the explosion, but did not confirm any players.

“Oh of course,” Orgon said. “With isolated individuals, and with COVID, there will always be starters.”

Oregon will not comment on where things stand with LSU’s total scholarship numbers and whether the game will be canceled or postponed.

“I’m going to let the doctors (LSU athletics director Scott Woodward) handle those things,” Oregon said. “Those numbers are very fluid now.”

The eruption started a week ago, and now the numbers go into Alabama week.

“It started last week,” Oregon said. “Probably on Tuesday or Wednesday, I was told about some guys who had COVID. The numbers are high due to isolation. Only then will you get low (scholarship) numbers.”

It was the second LSU game to be affected this season as a result of the Covit-19 test, and the Florida game was postponed to December 12 as a result of the eruption in the Gators program.

Prior to the 2020 season, the Southeastern Conference released guidelines for teams and the number of scholarship players needed to host the conference.

SEC teams must have at least 53 assistant players to participate in a game, including one quarterback, seven attacking lines and four defensive line players. If a team is unable to meet the minimum requirements, or is below the scholarship limit of 53, the program may choose the game anyway. Otherwise, the game will be reviewed or declared non-competitive.

Both LSU and Alabama are coming off a pie week, with LSU’s built-in pie week on December 12 already filled with caterers as a result of the game being postponed to October.

Argon revealed that starting the quarterback Miles Brennan had been turned down for the Alabama game and that he was struggling with a minor injury to the body. Oregon will not confirm whether the real newcomers to DJ Finlay and Max Johnson are quarterbacks or part of the team’s isolated players.

Alabama entered the country as the No. 1 team this week, with William Hill Sportsbook backing up the rankings for Saturday’s match by 23 points. Monday morning, line up to 24 points, Via Sportsline.

The Crimson Tide (6-0, 6-0 SEC) topped the AP and coaches’ first 25 polls after beating Notre Dame’s top-ranked Clemson in double overtime on Saturday. Notre Dame finished 2nd with Ohio State in 3rd, while Clemson finished 4th.

LSU (2-3, 2-3 SEC) is in survival mode all season, bringing the worst loss of the project since 1996 with a 48-11 setback on Auburn on Halloween. As the list numbers entering the season dwindle, Ed Argheron’s plan has piled up with major injuries each week, with many players suspended, including quarterback Miles Brennan, and the Tigers failing to find any consistency.

A year ago, Alabama won eight games in the LSU Series with a 46-41 victory over Tuscaloosa. The win reduced the Crimson Tights’ lead to 53-26-5 in the series and gave the Tigers their first win between the two since 2011.
