The Dutch family film snout will be shown in Dutch cinemas for exactly one year on Friday. In the age of streaming services, it’s rare for a movie to last that long on the big screen.
snout drew more than 114,000 visitors to cinemas last year. The animated film about a charming little pig had its first previews on June 30, 2022. The film is shown in three other cinemas: Focus in Arnhem, Eye in Amsterdam and LantarenVenster in Rotterdam.
Distributor Gusto Entertainment is proud of this milestone for the film. Earlier this week, the company emailed all cinema bosses in the Netherlands. “Thank you very much for your efforts over the past year,” write the two owners of the company.
In particular, they rent the three mentioned theaters and the Louis Hartlooper complex in Utrecht. “Shot here snout almost continuously for a year. Where do you still see that in these times?”
Knor won a golden calf and was submitted for the Oscars
The Dutch animated film, about a girl who receives a pig as a gift from her grandfather, won several awards at home and abroad. So was snout the first animated film to win and become the golden calf for best feature film snout submitted for the Oscars.
The title has been sold in 28 countries including the United States and China where snout will be screened at the cinema.
The film is a stop motion animation. This means that a director obtains his images by photographing clay or plastic puppets shot by shot, while the puppet has a slightly different pose with each shot. By playing these images one after another, it seems that the puppets are moving.
