Leonardo Bonucci (36) is pushed out by Juventus. The club icon has been removed from selection by the club. The veteran was informed that he was no longer part of the future plans of the Old lady.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that director Christiano Giuntoli informed the captain that there was no room for him while preparing for the new season. Bonucci will be excluded from the first selection and will not travel to the United States for training camp. Juventus don’t even intend to register Bonucci as a player for the club which would make him ineligible to play this season.
It seems that the top Italian club is forcing Bonucci out. Juventus want to force the veteran’s departure, after the defender previously announced he wanted to stay at the club. The captain’s armband has already been removed. Brazilian Danilo will wear it next season.
Bonucci now faces an important choice. He still has a contract until mid-2024 but seems to have no chance of playing at Juventus next season. Italian media suggest the 2021 European champion is considering hanging up the boots, but a move to Sampdoria is also on the cards. Newcastle United have also inquired about Bonucci’s services, while MLS are also offering a way out.
Bonucci has played no less than 502 official games for Juventus so far. He won the Scudetto eight times with the club. Bonucci has also won the Coppa Italia four times. In the meantime, he left for AC Milan, but after one season he returned to Turin.
