The 21-year-old from Assen had to throw at least 63.50 meters. At the same time, she set a new Dutch record with her performance, which was dropped a few years ago due to Ria Stalman’s doping-related performance and has since remained vacant. Until today, the record at 63.88 meters was held by Corrie de Bruin, who did so in 1988.
Van Klinken moved to the United States in late December to study Global Management for a year and a half at Arizona State University in Tempe near Phoenix and to train under the guidance of Wool Dyed Brian Blutreigh, who himself even participated in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
The Athletics Union announces that the new record will be recognized anyway. Van Klinken has long been known as a great pitching talent. In 2019, she won a gold medal at the European Junior Championships in the shot put. The same year, at the age of 19, she even participated with the discus at the World Athletics Championships in Doha.
With her performance, Van Klinken is fifth in the 2021 world rankings, she proudly reports on her Instagram account. She is also proud of two more throws in the game of another 65 and 63.5 yards. Her previous record dates back four days when she threw 62.58 meters in Los Angeles.
