Joran van der Sloot is under tight security overnight from Friday to Saturday to release to the Peruvian capital Lima. He was held in the tall and freezing Challapalca prison in the south of the country and will be extradited to the US state of Alabama for up to two years for a criminal trial.
$25,000
Van der Sloot will be flown from Lima to the United States in the coming days. He will stand trial in Alabama for defrauding the parents of Natalee Holloway, who disappeared without a trace in Aruba in 2005. He collected $25,000 from them for worthless information about the girl’s whereabouts, but was caught in the act by FBI agents.
In 2010 Van der Sloot killed a young woman in her hotel room in Lima-Miraflores and was sentenced to years in prison for it.
Guarantee
De Telegraaf writes that Peruvian justice has received a guarantee from American authorities that Van der Sloot will return to Peru after his trial in the United States to serve the rest of his sentence there. After that, Van der Sloot will be sent back to the United States to serve a (possible) sentence for fraud.
