In the spring of 2021, the JCI Transformers committee will try to make girls and boys in grades five and six enthusiastic about science and technology, as in previous years. “We want to achieve this by allowing them to build their own robot and program it together step by step,” says committee chairman Maxim Vandaele (25). “In recent years we have always had physical sessions, but due to the current circumstances we have moved to a loan service. The goal is to build a robot and connect the electronics in four weeks. We guide the children through a series of videos, give them various assignments and offer them programming assistance. We offer the concept in three periods for nine children each. The first period began on February 13, with a tipping point a month later. The last period begins on April 10. During the different times, JCI volunteers will help the children develop their robot project. »Challenge The different missions are also linked to a challenge. “Once the challenge is over, the kids will be introduced to technical skills such as mechanics, electronics and programming. We have already received some great photos of the achievements of the participants in the first round. Our steering committee will evaluate the submissions and the final winner will receive a voucher of 50 euros. JCI believes that this will enable children to make a well-considered choice of study. “We give them an insight into technology and want to make them enthusiastic about the fascinating world of science. For our project, we are receiving support from various local businesses. They sponsor the kits because they are convinced that young talents can be discovered in this way. Many companies in Tieltse are constantly on the lookout for solid technical profiles. JCI Transformers could count on a lot of interest. “A week after registration opened, places were already full. That is why we are now looking to see if we can provide a few more sessions. “(TV)
