Jர்கrgen Klopp explains the surprising Liverpool alternative against Ajax

Jurgen Klopp has explained his surprising decision to change Liverpool’s first choice front row during the Champions League victory in Ajax.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were replaced in the 59th minute 1-0 win in Holland On Wednesday.

With Liverpool Earlier, the Globe used five alternative rules in the match, introducing Diego Jotta, Takumi Minamino and Sherdan Shakiri for the final half hour.

The trio had a chance to extend their lead by finishing second in the starting Group D table behind Italian side Atlanta, who won 4-0 against Midfield in Denmark.

Globe said: “You could see it was a serious game for the three front games.

“It was tough for the opening three and I was so glad we were able to do it (replace them).

“I have no doubt the quality of the boys (who came). The game was so wild, we all defended together.

“We came to the defense 4-5-1 and both wingers really had to be on the defensive. The moment you win the ball, then there are big places for counter-attacks and we thought it makes sense to bring in new legs.

“All three who came were in good condition and they all really helped a lot.

“Shock won the deviations, it’s so special! The doggy in both directions was incredible between the lines and Diego is a machine, he can do a lot of punishing opponents in situations with each other.

“Unfortunately we did not finish them.”

Jordan Henderson was already at the break to replace Curtis Jones, while Rice Williams – who, like Jones – made his Champions League debut – arrived at the time of injury to James Milner.

Globe added: “I’m so glad we were able to make five changes. Millie only had muscle cramps, but you can bring Rice. It was long balls (from Ajax) and Rice is very strong in the wind.

“There are some good stories in the game. It may not be on the first page of our history book, but it is an important success. ”
