“100 days to wear the mask, not forever. 100 days. I think we will see a significant reduction,” Biden told Topper. Full interview at 9pm ET.
Biden said he had asked Dr. Anthony Fassi to be a chief medical consultant and part of his Govt-19 response team when his administration began next year.
Biden said the conversation took place on Thursday afternoon. The day before, CNN reported that Fucci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of President Donald Trump’s corona virus task force, had a scheduled meeting with Biden’s replacement team.
“I have asked him to be in the same role he has played in the last several presidents, and I have asked him and me to be a chief medical adviser and a member of the Govt team,” Biden told Topper.
Biden added that Ron Klein, the head of his incoming staff, who knew Fossie well, had been talking to him “all the time”.
Biden and Trump have long taken completely different approaches to the virus, which came to define the presidential election. Trump has fought many corona virus recommendations put forward by his own administration, including wearing a mask, and strictly adhered to corona virus guidelines during the Biden campaign.
Trump’s struggle against the Corona virus recommendations often contradicts Fucci, one of the most outspoken members of Trump’s working group. Those conflicts are seen as a hero on the left and a villain on the right, especially among Trump believers, for his commitment to science in confronting Trump’s views.
Biden described his corona virus program as a balance between ensuring that Americans believe the vaccine is safe and establishing several programs to prevent the virus from spreading without shutting down the economy.
Fiden said in an interview that he would “be happy” to receive the corona virus vaccine after being told that it was safe, and that he would receive the vaccine publicly to prove his confidence in it.
“I will stand in front of the public and get vaccinated,” Biden said. “People have lost faith in the ability of the vaccine to work. The numbers are already really low, and what the president and vice president are doing is important.”
“I think my three forerunners have set the model for what needs to be done. As soon as it is declared safe … and then we openly take it, it is important to communicate with the American people,” Biden said.
“It’s up to me as to what kind of precedent this sets, and how other worlds see us as a nation of laws and justice,” Biden said, adding that his judiciary would “act independently on those issues.” How to respond to any Trump apology.
“I’m not going to tell them what they should and shouldn’t do,” Biden said. I’m not going to say “sue A, B or C” and I’m not going to tell them. It’s not the character, it’s not my judiciary, it’s the people’s judiciary. So the individuals or the person I choose to run that department are going to be individuals with the independent ability to decide who should be prosecuted and who is not. “
Biden concluded that his administration, like Trump, would not approach pardon, “which would be a completely different way of approaching the justice system.”
Biden has not yet chosen an attorney general, but is considering several names, including former deputy attorney general Sally Yates; Doug Jones will soon be a former senator from Alabama who was defeated in November; And J. Johnson, Secretary of Homeland Security under Obama; Among others.
Harris echoed Biden’s comments about the judiciary.
“We will not say how the work of the judiciary will be done,” Harris said. “We’re going to assume, as an elected former Attorney General in California, I say this … any decision coming out of the judiciary … must be based on facts, it must be based on the law, it must not be affected by the political period.”
Biden interrupted: “I guarantee you, how it will run.”
